Arsene Wenger lauded his new summer signing Granit Xhaka after the Swiss International arrived for his first day at training.

As reported by Metro, Xhaka met with his new teammates for the first time earlier today before getting on with the pre-season preparations.

Xhaka, 23 is hailed as the perfect signing for Arsenal given his passing skills, the ability to win back the ball and be fearless in his tackles.

Gunners have been looking for a player of that caliber for quite some time now and in Xhaka they may have finally found an able enforcer to lead their midfield.

Manager Arsene Wenger knows the importance of his new summer recruit as he shed some light to why Xhaka will be important for the Gunners next season.

Xhaka in Arsenal training

Wenger said:  ‘[Xhaka brings] his passing ability to play through the lines from deep positions, his work rate, and he’s good in the air,’ Wenger told Arsenal Player.

‘He’s a young boy as well, 23 years old. There’s a lot to come from him. We lost three midfielders: Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, and numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now.

‘Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will come back, Wilshere is back… so we are solid in midfield.’

All the valid points made by the Gunners boss as he gets ready to walk in to the most difficult Premier League season in our recent memory.

Arsenal are under an added pressure this summer after blowing up their title challenge last season against Leicester. Not only Xhaka but the entire team has to come together and play like a unit if Gunners supporters are to see an end to their recent trophy drought.
