Arsenal have agreed to send their goal keeper Wojciech Szczesny back on loan to the Serie A club AS Roma. Italian newspaper Il Tempo have confirmed positive talks between the two clubs with a deal expected to be announced some time in next 24 hours.
The same has been confirmed by Roma manager Luciano Spalletti who earlier this week commented that Roma are trying to extend Szczesny’s stay at Stadio Olimpico.
Szczesny spent last season on loan with AS Roma making 26 appearances and is wanted by the Serie A club despite completing a deal to sign the Brazilian goal keeper Alisson earlier this summer.
Speaking with Evening Standard, Spalletti said: “Both the goalkeepers [Alisson and Lobont] are strong, but we still don’t have Szczesny.”
According to Il tempo, the two clubs will split Szczesny’s £2.5m-per-season salary while Arsenal will net around £800,000 (€1m) for the loan renewal.
Roma will also have the option to exercise a £12.5m (€15m) permanent option at the end of the campaign. An official announcement for the deal is expected tomorrow with player moving to Rome immediately.
