Arsene Wenger is facing nothing less than a defensive crisis at the moment but despite that Arsenal manager has agreed to let Calum Chambers leave Emirates on loan this summer.
According to reports from Daily Mail, Arsenal have informed clubs around Europe that the 21-year-old is available despite the fact that he is one of only three fit centre-backs at the Emirates.
Gunners are currently without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel for at least next 3 months and given Arsenal’s failure in the transfer market we may not see a defensive signing anytime soon.
That is why it is almost astonishing and perhaps beyond belief that Wenger is even considering letting Chambers leave on loan this season.
Either the Arsenal manager is confident of signing a quality defender this summer or he is not happy with Chambers’ development at the club.
Yes, the 22-year-old has failed to justify the £16m price tag so far but surely that cannot be the reason for him to be sent away from the club when Wenger is in a huge defensive crisis.
Like many of his decisions lately, Arsenal fans are confused with this decision from their long-serving manager and are hoping for a silver lining somewhere in a summer of transfer disappointments.
