Manchester United travel to Watford later today knowing about the critical nature of injuries to their strikers. So much so, Louis Van Gaal might have to rely on the likes of James Wilson, Memphis Depay or Marouane Fellaini to play up top at Vicarage Road. United’s opponent Watford are ranked 11th in the League and have the capability of creating an upset against The Red Devils.
What is at Stake for both the teams?
Watford would aim at maintaining a consistent run of results after their defeat against Leicester last time around. Prior to that, Watford had won against West Ham, Stoke and Newcastle. Manager Quique Sánchez Flores would like to see his team put up a performance worth savoring against a Manchester United side, who can be extremely hard to beat.
As for Manchester United, they are focused on getting a win, no matter how. Their playing style has been bashed in media by several of United’s former players and that cannot be a good thing before any game. However, Van Gaal’s players are backing their manager and that is precisely the reason why, they have maintained to play this new brand of football at United with a degree of ease.
Team News and Predicted Lineups
Watford – The Horets are sweating over Odion Ighalo’s late return from the International duties and it could be a case where the prolific striker is only fit to start from bench. If that is the case, manager Sanchez Flores will have to mix it up against Manchester United. Right-back Allan Nyom is also a doubt.
Predicted Watford Starting XI vs Man United: Gomes, Cathcart, Britos, Ake, Nyom, Capoue, Watson, Anya, Deeney, Jurado, Ighalo
Manchester United – The Red Devils face an injury crisis in striking position as Rooney and Martial are set to miss the game. Add to that Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw are ruled out with Marcos Rojo being a doubt as well.
Predicted Man United Starting XI vs Watford: De Gea, Darmian, Jones, Smalling, Young, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Mata, Memphis, Lingard, Wilson
Etienne Capoue vs Morgan Schneiderlin – If you like power and muscle in a football game, then this is one battle you cannot afford to miss. Both of these powerhouses are crucial for their teams and when they take to field tonight, it will go a long way in deciding the outcome for Watford vs Manchester United clash.
Odion Ighalo vs Chris Smalling – One of league’s brightest strikers this season going against the best defender in England this season. Ighalo has this unreal ability of taking a shot out of any situation and that is where Smalling and De Gea will have to be on their guard this weekend.
It may be a tough scenario for Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal when they take on Watford due to their key strikers missing the game, but it will not dictate the eventual result. Watford will look to play with 10 men behind the ball and frustrate United, however, with Memphis, Lingard, Mata and Herrera in their ranks, United should have enough to win the game. Predicted Score line – Watford 0 Manchester United 1.
