2015 was a great year for Premier League as we some of the best defensive displays in recent seasons. On the wake of an absolute sensation year of Premier League action, we take a look at the Top 5 Premier League Defenders in the Year 2015.

Defense has gained all more importance in recent months because of the emergence of smaller teams in to dangerous attacking force. Teams likes Leicester, Watford and Bournemouth have caused havoc for bigger teams and the teams at top are getting even stronger.

Having said that, let us take a look at the Top 5 Premier League Defenders in the Year 2015.

1) Chris Smalling (Manchester United) – Is it even debatable with the kind of consistency he has shown this season. Ask any United fan, and they will tell you how consistency and Smalling were two completely unrelated terms until the 2015/16 season.

Smalling has been key to many wins for Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal will hope to see his third skipper play to the levels he has been doing in last 6 months. Smalling indeed deserves to lead our list of Top 5 Premier League Defenders in the Year 2015.

2) Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal) – Just like Manchester United, Arsenal have been surprised with the injury free spell Laurent Koscielny has enjoyed in the year went by. The Frenchman has been one of the key reason for Arsenal to be on top of the EPL table.

It also sees him to feature among the Top 5 Premier League Defenders in the Year 2015.

3) Alex Morgan (Leicetser) – It could be a controversial call but given how Morgan has Leicester first through the relegation battle last season and once again has been a cornerstone for Leicester’s title march this season.

Given how Foxes are playing, Morgan deserves to be on our list of Top 5 Premier League Defenders in the Year 2015 with his influential defending performances.

4) Nacho Monreal (Arsenal) – I was in a fix to pick between Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal. In the end, the Spaniard got my vote just because of his great consistency, even in the game where Arsenal have been second best.

Bellerin often goes missing and because of his young age, he often gets found out during the game. However, Monreal has been a steady figure for the Gunners’ defense and deservingly finds himself in our list of Top 5 Premier League Defenders in the Year 2015.

5) Scott Dann (Crystal Palace) – Many Kompany fans will will be asking for my head right as I have decided to go with Dann, who I think has been one of the best defenders in Premier League this season and the one before that.

Alan Pardrew has found a leader in Dann, who loves to score crucial goals as well as guide Crystal Palace to a respectable finish this season.
