One wonders how much focus will there be on this game given Swansea’s already secured Premier League status and Liverpool’s concentration on the Europa League semifinal second leg tie next Thursday.
However, both teams will have to play for pride when they square off this weekend. Ahead of the kick-off, we take a look at three key questions which ought to be answered from the game at Liberty Stadium.
Will Daniel Sturridge get a start?
Whether or not Daniel Sturridge starts against Swansea, he is not in a good state of mind at the moment. After getting snubbed for the Europa League tie, Sturridge was vocal and even threatened to quit the club next season.
Jurgen Klopp has looked to start Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi ahead of the more experienced Sturridge, which has got the English striker fuming.
Given the Europa League second leg next week, we could see Klopp start with Sturridge this weekend but it could infuriate the striker even further as he will then be certain to miss the return leg vs Villarreal.
A repeat of what went down vs Stoke?
Earlier in the month, Klopp made astounding 10 changes to his team ahead of the quarterfinal return leg against Borussia Dortmund. Despite those drastic changes, Liverpool came away with a 4-1 win.
Liverpool fans would hope for a similar result this weekend, as it will keep them in good spirits going in to the game against Villarreal where they have to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.
Martin Skrtel and his future at Liverpool?
Another player who has been left out of favor by Jurgen Klopp is the central defender Martin Skrtel. The defender has not started since his horrific display against Watford earlier in the season.
Despite Mamadou Skaho suspended, Klopp opted to start with Kolo Toure for the first leg against Villarreal and is expected to do the same next week.
It should make a case for Skrtel to start against Swansea but given the recent snubs, one wonders if we will ever see Martin Skrtel play in a Liverpool shirt before he heads for the exit doors next season.
