Chelsea have made their intentions of signing a new central defender this summer pretty clear after several names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, including Antonio Conte’s favorite Leonardo Bonucci.

However, Blues have turned their attention to the highly rated AS Roma’s centre-back Antonio Rudiger. The 23-year old defender is currently with Germany’s Euro 2016 squad but could seal his Chelsea transfer if The Blues decide to cough-up £20million for his signature.

Rudiger was signed by Roma just a couple of weeks ago which now makes him eligible for a transfer move this summer without Roma having to pay a large sum of the money to a third party vendor.

According to Ill Tempo, Roma are keen to sell Rudiger but will only entertain a bid in the region of £20million. Chelsea’s £17million offered was turned down by the Romans last week with further talks to take place during Euro 2016.

Rudiger is seen as the easiest signing of the three Roma players linked with Chelsea this summer. Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic will command a fee of over £30million but Rudiger’s representatives are certain of a £20million transfer this summer.

Chances of Rudiger joining Chelsea – 4/5

Antonio Conte needs a central defender this summer as he cannot just rely on what he has (Cahill, Terry, Zouma) at the moment.

Rudiger, 23 presents a good value for money deal and the fact that Roma rushed in to making his deal permanent sends a clear message about their intention to sell the player as well.

This transfer seems like a good deal for all the parties involved and I will not be surprised if it gets completed in coming days, that too before Euro 2016 kicks-off later next week.
