Confirmed – Wayne Rooney to join Chinese Super League to become world’s highest paid footballer

Wayne Rooney has been offered a world record €36.5million per year salary to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, according to reports from Daily Star.

Rooney’s place in the United lineup has been under threat in recent weeks despite breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal scoring record last week.

Rooney has also been told by manager Jose Mourinho that if he wants, he can quit the club in search of regular playing time.

Rooney was linked with a move back to Everton or to the MLS. However, with the recent money coming from China, England skipper could be tempted to play in the Chinese Super League.

Face of Football’s take

With Wayne’s record out of the way, smart decision from Manchester United will be to bid farewell to the 30-year-old and move in for Antoine Griezmann or someone like Harry Kane.

United could be in for a big favor from Rooney of he decides to go to China as the club will surely get a huge transfer fee to go with the world record salary for the United skipper.
