Celtic are set to make an offer for full-back Jon Flanagan after he left Liverpool, as per reports from Sunday Post.

The Scottish publication claims the Glasgow giants are ready to stake a claim for the England International after Liverpool revealed on their official website on Friday that he will be allowed to leave when his contract runs out at the end of the month.

The Sunday Post report that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of Flanagan and his club are “likely” to make a contract offer to the player, while the player has also garnered interest from Rangers and clubs south of the border.

Flanagan is likely still feeling the impact of his exit from boyhood club Liverpool, where he graduated from the academy to play 51 senior games and earn international recognition.

He has tried his best to progress up the pecking order since he suffered a series of shattering knee injuries, but all tactics failed with the Merseysiders with his contract about to come to an end.

This allows the versatile full-back, who played with such aplomb in Rodgers’ 2013-14 side that finished second in the Premier League, the chance to start anew as he looks to reignite his career.

Could he be set for a reunion with the Northern Irishman who has steered Celtic to successive trebles? That is very possible. Rodgers is well familiar with Flanagan’s skills and could regard him as a low-risk signing given that he can be signed on a free from the end of the month. With Celtic in need of a new right-back, he could be a decent signing.
