The 30-year-old is vastly experienced for both club and country after making over 100 appearances for Estonia. Klavan has been plying for Bundesliga side Augsburg since 2012 and has been regarded as one of the best defenders in Germany.
According to Opta, Klavan made 181 clearances last season which was only one behind Liverpool’s other summer signing Joel Matip.
After seeing the exits of Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure, manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to add defensive stability to his squad. With Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomes ruled out from Liverpool’s opening game of the season Klavan is brought as a timely cover.
Initial reports suggest that Klavan will be handed the number 5 Jersey at the club which is left vacant following Martin Skrtle’s exit from Anfield. Liverpool expect to officially announce Klavan’s signing in next 24 hours.
Elsewhere The Reds are also linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum in a reported £25m deal which can stretch as high as £27m.
