Chelsea have been dealt a major in their pursuit of Radja Nainggolan after AS Roma manager Luciano Spalletti came out confirming player’s desires to stay in Serie A.
According to reports from Mirror, Spalletti has revealed that Nainggolan has promised him to stay put at Stadio Olimpico next season and will snub any offers from Chelsea this summer.
There have been several talks of the 28-year old becoming Antonio Conte’s first major summer signing, however, Nainggolan is keen to stay with AS Roma, as confirmed by his current manager.
While speaking with Mirror, Spalletti said: “Radja is a man of his word and he promised me he will stay. I spoke to him and he seemed enthusiastic about continuing to give us his contribution next season.”
The news has put Chelsea’s hopes of signing the combative midfielder on hold for now. Blues have already failed with two previous attempts with Roma turning down offers in the region of £27million.
Nainggolan, 28 is currently on Euro 2016 duties with Belgium and is eager to sort out his club future before the next season begins.
He seems content with the option of playing for Roma, however, if the Serie A club accepts a bid for his transfer, he will take it as a fresh challenge and give his all to Chelsea’s cause next season.
