Defense would only see one change from the game against Liverpool with Guillermo Varela paying the price for his error filled game at Old Trafford. In comes Matteo Darmian, who has bee making a steady return from his recent injury.

Midfield:

Morgan Schneiderlin was rested against Liverpool, and one thinks, he would be a sure starter against City. Bastian Schweinsteiger has been eased back in to the action, and it would be the right game for him make his first start in over 2 months.

Attack:

Jesse Lingard started vs. Liverpool from the number 10 role, which did not make sense at all. Van Gaal must play him from the wings, and use Juan Mata in the number 10 position. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were the brightest players for United in the Europa League, and they will be expected to play key roles for United once again.
