4-2-3-1 with Rashford and Carrick benched, Memphis to start – Best Manchester United Lineup vs Liverpool?

Manchester United travel to Anfield in one of the most important games of their season as they take on Liverpool in first leg of Europa League round of 16 later tonight. Ahead of the big kick-off, we take a look at Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Liverpool.

Louis Van Gaal is slowly getting all his players back from injuries with Antonio Valencia and Bastian Schweinsteiger training with the first team all this week. While the duo could be slightly under-prepared to star vs. Liverpool, their return will be a welcome news for The Red Devils.

As for the players available to Van Gaal, Timothy Fesu-Mensah is ineligible to play tonight after UEFA ruling him out of the game by virtue of not spending enough time at the club to play in a European competition.

Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Liverpool

Predicted Manchester United lineup vs LiverpoolDefense: It would be more of a settle back-four for Manchester United vs. Liverpool after Marcos Rojo’s return to fitness. Daley Blind would occupy the left-back slot despite being over worked in recent weeks.

Matteo Darmian looked out of form vs. West Brom, and he will need to find his touch quickly as he will be up against Philippe Coutinho and other dynamic Liverpool attackers.

Midfield: Michael Carrick will be an option for Van Gaal, but ideally he would prefer Schneiderlin-Herrera combination to bail him out in an important game for Manchester United.

While Schneiderlin acts as the shield for his back-four, Herrera with his quick and deceptive movements, can get at Liverpool’s slightly under-confidence defense. Liverpool midfield is not the most mobile in Premier League, and that is where, United can take an advantage.

Attack: Marcus Rashford must be given a breather and should be protected from big-games in his early United career. If he has a bad game vs. Liverpool, it would shatter his confidence and will hinder his progress at the club.

Anthony Martial has fond memories of playing at Anfield, and he should start the game tonight to hand his side a fighting chance in the tie. Jesse Lingard and Memphis Depay have looked bright in recent weeks and they should start with Juan Mata in central areas to feed Martial quality balls to go and score for United.
