Celtic completed the deal that saw Erik Sviatchenko leave the club on Monday.
The centre-back has returned to Midtjylland after spending the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at the Danish club, from whom he was signed by Ronny Deila in 2016.
And should Marvin Compper follow his footsteps and leave Celtic?
Compper, a £1 million signing in January, has played just one game under Brendan Rodgers after struggling to have a good form during his six-month spell at Glasgow so far.
The German centre-back turns 33 in July and the Hoops could be trying to send him out to bring in another experienced defender who can be more dependable.
Even if Compper’s time at the club hadn’t been plagued with injury, he is still somewhat an unproven player among Rodgers’ side. The Northern Irishman manager could wait for him to regain his form and get fit, but they’ll be waiting for a 33-year-old who has little or nothing to offer.
With Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic, Jack Hendry and Kristoffer Ajer, the Bhoys have more than enough centre-backs right now and even if linked-away Boyata or Simunovic departs this summer, is Rodgers really going to rely on Compper instead of signing a replacement?
