Brendan Rodgers will be keen to keen to see that his side retain their strength following the improvements happening at rival club Rangers and Steven Gerrard recently and will be determined to keep one of his best stars loyal to the club.

According to the Daily Record, the Northern Irishman is desperate to try and convince Dedryck Boyata to remain at Celtic Park for as long as possible, despite garnered interest from SS Lazio. It is understood that the Serie A side is yet to initiate contact, however, Celtic is not too blind to see the continued interest in the player.

The Belgium international, who has been a regular in Roberto Martinez’s team during the World Cup, has entered into the final year of his deal at Celtic Park and the Hoops wants him to prolong his stay at the club.

Talks about a new deal started before this summer’s tournament, however, the 27-year-old put such discussions on hold until the competition is over and the Bhoys will be hoping he does put pen to paper when he returns.

The Celtic fans will be desperate to see Boyata sign a new deal at Parkhead this summer following some impressive performances for the Hoops.

The former Manchester City centre-back has been an integral part of the Celtic team since he joined them in 2015 and has helped the club to six trophies since them. He will probably recommit to Celtic.
