Chelsea central defender Pappy Djilobodji has joined Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on loan until the end of this season, according to Bremen’s club sources.
Werder Bremen announced the news on their official twitter account, which read: “Werder have signed Papy Djilobodji on loan until the end of the season! Welcome to Bremen, Papy!”
Djilbodji joins Werder Bremen
The 6 ft 2 in defender joined Chelsea last summer from Ligue 1 side Nantes and failed to make any impression under Jose Mourinho and then Guus Hiddink.
Djilbodji’s exit does not come as a surprise to anyone as if he was to have any chance of playing for Chelsea next season, he would have to prove his mark in remained of this season.
Having joined Werder Bremen on loan until the end of this season, Djilbodji would look to justify Roman Abramovich’s investment last summer as he was clearly never seen as a Jose Mourinho signing.
As it turned out, Djilbodji could never break through the Cahill-Terry-Zouma trio at Stamford Bridge and only played 1 minute of Premier League action since his arrival.
Now that Djilbodji has joined Bremen, we will see whether or he was worth the £3.4million move made by the Blues.
