Manchester United are still trying to resolve Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund but it seems United’s business from Bundesliga may not be over just yet.
According to reports from M.E.N, German bookmakers bwin had to slash Julian Draxler’s odds of joining Man United late last night after a flurry of bets placed on his future next season.
A bwin spokesperson came out with the explanation and said: “German bookmakers bwin took a huge amount of bets last night for Manchester United to be the next destination for Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler.
“Due to being inundated with bets, the firm has had to slash odds from 11/1 to 3/1.”
United are currently assessing their squad strength and weakness and which areas do they need to strengthen before the start of next season. Draxler is a wide player who loves to come inside and create chances.
The 22-year old was on fire in Germany’s round of 16 clash against Slovakia where he was given a rare start ahead of Mario Gotze. Despite the strong link-up with Man United, Red Devils will need to splash huge sum of money (£50-60m) to get him as he only joined Wolfsburg last summer.
It has been suggested that Draxler could sit and discuss his club future next week following the end of Euro 2016. Man United are ready to pounce on the world cup winner if he agrees to quit Bundesliga this summer.
Do United need Draxler right now?
In an ideal scenario, Mourinho would want Draxler from the right wing, Anthony Martial from the left and Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing the number 10 behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
That would be a wishful thinking but can be pulled off if Jose is ready to upset quite a number of players at Old Trafford next season. With Draxler coming in, we may have seen the last of Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Adnan Januzaj and possible Memphis Depay.
Is Mourinho ready to make these many bold decisions in his very first season in charge? I do not think so. While Draxler’s move does seem like fascinating but for me this may be a friendly hello from United’s camp to show their interest in signing him next summer.
