Arsenal left back Nacho Monreal has agreed an extension to his current contract which will keep him at the club until the year 2019.
According to reports from Sky Sports, Monreal has agreed a new 3-year contract and has been given a £20,000-a-week pay rise.
According to Sky Sports, Monreal will now earn £80k-a-week and his new contract will cost Arsenal £14.6million over the period of 3 years.
By signing the new contract, Monreal has eased off all the rumours linking him to a summer move to Athletic Bilbao. It was believed that Monreal wants a return to his hometown and is willing to force a move to Bilbao.
However, with the new contract, he will very much be a part of Arsenal side in coming years after becoming a regular under Arsene Wenger in last 18 months.
Earlier in the month, Wenger praised his 29-year old full-back and said: “He is a very important player at the club because he can play left-back and centre back. He has the consistency in his performances that is requested at the top level.
“Overall, his attitude has been absolutely fantastic on a daily basis since he arrived here. He’s 100 per cent committed and I think as well he has always improved since he has arrived and has shown that in many big games as well.”
