Malaysia’s Mohd Faiz Subri won the Puskas Award at the FIFA Best Football ceremony on Monday evening.
The Malaysian, who read his acceptance speech from his phone, received the award after picking up the most votes from football fans across the world.
He scored an outstanding, swerving free-kick for Penang against Pahang in the Malaysia Super League on February 16, 2016.
The 29-year-old was handed the FIFA award by Brazilian legend Ronaldo in Zurich on Monday evening.

While FIFpro XI and FIFA Men’s player of the year category had all the big names and Premier League’s Claudio Ranieri walked away with coach of the year award, it was rather fitting that these unknown names shared the joy of sharing the stage with global superstars.
There were no Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Luis Suarez getting nominated for Puskas award for 2016 but it was Mohd Faiz Subri, Marlone and Daniuska Rodriguez making the headlines with their stunning strikes.
