Gunners are flying high at the moment after completing the deal for Granit Xhaka and are set to announce Jamie Vardy’s signing tomorrow afternoon. However, those are not the only signing Arsenal have planned for this season.

According to reports from The Sun, Arsene Wenger is all set to push forward to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer after edging Chelsea out of the race. Blues were also keen on the Dortmund playmaker, but lack of Champions League has seen Arsenal take charge of this transfer battle.

Mkhitaryan, 27 managed an incredible tally of 23 goals and 32 assists last season and is currently in last year of his contract. Dortmund did try to offer him a new contract but his agent rejected it by saying: “Why should we prolong it now?”  (According to Bild)

Since then, Armenian International is linked with a move to Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal with Gunners looking set to sign the attacker by offering him Champions League action.

According to reports, Mkhitaryan will be offered £85,000-a-week to sign for the North London giants with £21million being the expected transfer fee. The player is equally adept at playing either on the wings and can be used as a central attacker as well.

Chances of Mkhitaryan joining Arsenal – 2/5

I am not getting carried away with the reports just now. To start with the news has come from The Sun, who tend to get carried away with news at times. Next, Mkhitaryan is a sort of player which Arsenal already have in abundance.

If he goes to Emirates, he will end up fighting for places, which he does not want at this time in his career. He should rather opt for Chelsea or Manchester United, where there is a clear lack of quality in terms of a player who can operate in the number 10 role.

Arsenal may have been favored by the media to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but I have my reservations about the Dortmund ace joining the Gunners this summer.
