Lionel Messi is no stranger to winning awards and the four time Ballon d’or winner was presented with UEFA’s Goal of the season honor for his chip shot vs AS Roma last season.
Back in November 2015, Messi produced a delightful chipped finish after Barcelona tore through the Italians with a series of fast-paced one-touch passes in the final third.
Messi won the race with 34% of the vote. Here is the video of that Messi’s classy finish vs Roma which won UEFA’s goal of the season award.
Runner-ups to Messi
The runner-up was Portuguese futsal king Ricardinho, who scored a dazzling golazo in the futsal euros last year. He earned 13% of the vote.
Finally, Stoke midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri earned the bronze with 11% of the vote for his scissors kick for the Swiss at Euro 2016.
Messi and Co. will be hoping for yet another successful Champions League season when the draw for this season’s competition is announced later today.
