While we are still trying to gather our thoughts from Jose Mourinho’s explosive first press conference as the Manchester United manager, Red Devils however are busy in wrapping up their key summer signings before start of their pre-season tour.
According to reports from Armenian TV, Man United took huge steps towards signing Blaise Matuidi last night after there were initial reports of the French star flying in to Manchester to complete his transfer.
While it seemed a bit over the top at the time, those rumours have continued to fill our time line today as well. However one major difference today was Bayern Munich’s involvement in the deal after trusted journalist Thibaud Vezirian confirmed that United have actually raced ahead of Bayern to sign Matuidi.
In his tweet, Vezirian said that Carlo Ancelotti tried to offer Matuidi first team action but Mino Raiola (yes that man again) prefers his client to join Mourinho’s Old Trafford revolution.
According to reports, Matuidi will undergo his United medical which has been planned as soon as the Euro 2016 is over and he will complete a €25million transfer to Manchester United. Matuidi, 29 wants to quit PSG following lack of assurance from the incoming manager Unay Emery.
Former Sevilla boss has brought Grzegorz Krychowiak along with him and is willing to bench Matuidi next season. That is why the French International is keen to seal a move to Old Trafford to ensure regular playing time under Jose Mourinho.
Is Matuidi a Mourinho kind of a player?
I am not sure if there was ever anyone better at executing Mourinho’s plans on the pitch than Blaise Matuidi? We always saw Claude Makelele was Jose’s biggest find in English football but even Makelele had his shortcomings as he lacked speed and burst going forward.
However, Matuidi has a superb engine which enables him to run up and down through out the 90 minutes. He loves to bomb forward but knows his defensive duties as well. His box-to-box game play would allow Wayne Rooney to play in the number 10 role and sure up United’s midfield from all angles.
Chances of Matuidi signing for Man United – 3/5
At this time whoever Mourinho wants it seems like he will sign that player come what may. United are willing to break their bank to support Jose and it can only mean that it is a matter of time before Blaise Matuidi signs for Manchester United.
However, as sure as it may sound, I would not start to bet my mortgage on this transfer going through just yet. Let Euro 2016 end first and see what Matuidi has to say about his future.
