By the sound of it, you must have figured it by now that Jose Mourinho has arrived at Old Trafford and is prepared to swing his AXE over several Manchester United players. Unfortunately for the fans, two of their favorites Daley Blind and Juan Mata top that list.
According to Sky Sports, Mourinho has sanctioned the sale of both Mata and Blind if favorable offers come later in this summer. The Special One is not a fan of players who lack physical attributes and are not ready to put a shift in for the team.
That was the precise reason why Mata was sold to Manchester United back in 2014 after Mourinho’s second home-coming at Chelsea. As for Blind, he would never be a Mourinho kind of a central defender and United already have as many as FIVE central midfield options so a way out of Old Trafford seems to the only option for the Dutch International.
With Mata and Blind linked with a move away from Manchester United, Mourinho is also working on possible direct replacements. AS Roma’s central defender Kostas Manolas and Valencia’s playmaker Andres Gomes are tipped to be a part of Mourinho’s squad overhaul at Old Trafford this summer.
When we compare what Manchester United have right now and what could be on offer, the latter option looks way much lucrative than the current one. All the love and affection that Mata gets from the United supporters is largely down to his good-man persona.
On the field, he has been as frustrating as Marouane Fellaini, if not more. YES, he was used from the right wing by Louis Van Gaal, but given his past record with Jose Mourinho, he might either get benched or be criticized for not helping out his defense.
Either ways, it will be best for Man United and Juan Mata to part ways, UNLESS Mourinho decides to give Mata the permanent number 10 role and does not say a word until January and see how things develop from there.
While there is a chance for Mata to rescue his Old Trafford career, I fear for Daley Blind … I really do. He is neither a strong central defender nor a combative defensive midfielder which Mourinho prefers in his starting XI.
Lets just say Mata and Blind are just the GOOD GUYS and not THE GUYS for Jose Mourinho as he prepares to take charge at Manchester United in less than two months’ time.
Manolas or Raphael Varane would be ideal signings for United to partner Chris Smalling at the heart of defense. The decision may come as a harsh one but if we think from Manchester United and Jose Mourinho’s point of view, it can only take the club in a forward direction.
