Agent of AS Roma central defender Kostas Manolas has come out and claimed that Arsenal failed to sign his client despite offering a mammoth £35million to the Serie A side.

Manolas has been strongly linked with a switch to Arsenal for several years with Arsene Wenger reportedly keen before the defender left Olympiacos for Roma in 2014.

Arsenal’s alleged interest has now been confirmed by Manolas’ agent John Evangelopoulos, who said: “Over the summer Roma rejected an offer of €40m (£35m) from Arsenal. The Gunners were interested but Roma’s demands were too much for the English club.”

Manolas on the move in summer?

Despite failing to join Arsenal in the summer, the Greek international could play for a new club next summer after reported interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.

Jose Mourinho’s side are monitoring 3 central defenders, including Manolas to sign next summer. Addressing those rumours, Evangelopoulos said: “Probably a sale in June? I cannot say for sure, but probably there will be something this summer. But in general in the world of football, it is difficult to make predictions.”
