Manchester United have been thrashed by the media in recent weeks for the lack of flair and excitement in their play. Louis Van Gaal has a tough job of correcting that tomorrow when he welcomes a dangerous and unpredictable West Brom side. There will be plenty of focus on Van Gaal’s team selection as he played a 4-4-2 in the Champions League and given the outcome, he should do it again.
Manchester United need to continue their momentum after the win over CSKA Moscow and show their fans that the performance midweek was not a fluke and they can indeed play some attractive football. Ahead of the kick-off, we take a look at the things we can expect from the game and how the game would eventually pan out, take a look:
Ashley Young to be booed?
Roy Keane has thrown an interesting assessment of Ashley Young’s career at Manchester United. Former United legend called Young a disgrace for the club and warned him to cut out his theatrics of diving. Young needs to be more cautious before he goes down next time. Old Trafford does not appreciate such kind of tactics, despite Young being one of them, he will not be spared if he continues to dive and fall around for very little contact.
It is high time, the Dutchman gets his due share of proving himself. With the recent change in formation, Memphis will be largely benefited as he will have more width to target and more to contribute to the team. With Memphis moving to left-hand side, it will allow Anthony Martial to play freely with Wayne Rooney in his support.
Smalling vs Berahino to be a close contest
There will be very few forwards, who can think of getting the better of Chris “Mike” Smalling at the moment. However, Saido Berahino, he is a different player altogether. Berahino relies on the his blistering speed and uncanny knack of being at the right place at the right time. Despite Smalling’s brilliant start to the season, he will have to be wary of Berhino’s threat.
Goals to flow for Manchester United
Manchester United’s biggest criticism this season has been the lack of goals from them. West Brom’s defense is not one of the most assured ones in the league right now and with an Gaal playing a more attacking formation, one expects United to start scoring again soon and it could be the game against West Brom, which kicks the whole thing.
