Manchester United Player Ratings vs Middlesbrough

Manchester United suffered a horrible penalty shootout defeat to Middlesbrough after Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young missed their spot kicks. Louis Van Gaal entrusted the youth for this game and to be fair, the young men did alright, it was the established men who led Manchester United down on the night.

After the horrendous night at Old Trafford, Man United now have the tough task of picking themselves and preparing for their next match against Crystal Palace. Sergio Romero – 7 – He virtually kept United in the game but had some massive moment of uncertainties.
Matteo Darmian – 6 – Defensively, he was good, but he could not contribute in attack.
Chris Smalling – 6 – After keeping Man City in check, he looked ill at ease tonight.
Daley Blind – 5.5 – Was lucky that his own goal was ruled out for offside.
Marcos Rojo – 6 – Yet again, his crossings went waste as United did not gamble.
Michael Carrick – 4 – Have not seen him So unsure over the ball in long time, missed his kick as well.
Marouane Fellaini – 5 – Played well but was guilty of missing so many chances to score.
Andreas Pereira – 6 – Had bright moments and should have scored in extra time.
Jesse Lingard – 6.5 – He looked promising yet again, struck the bar yet again.
Memphis Depay – 5 – Another poor game from the Dutchman.
James Wilson – 5 – Could only complete 45 minutes, looked bright.
Wayne Rooney (46′) – 4 – Fans are gunning for his head after he missed his kick.
Ashley Young (61′) – 5 – Tried his best, provided many crosses for Fellaini to attack.
Anthony Martial (71′) – 6 – Looked decisive as ever, missed a glorious chances from 6 yards out.
