Manchester United get the job done against a shambolic Crystal Palace

FA Cup euphoria got the better of Crystal Palace as they failed to turn up at Old Trafford in an uninspiring performance against Manchester United.

The Red Devils sealed a deserving 2-0 win with an own goal from Damien Delaney and a sweet strike from Matteo Darmian.

Palace failed to register a single shot on goal giving David De Gea a rare quiet night in goal. Wilfried Zaha looked the only player who posed a threat to United’s defense, but Daley Blind and Darmian marshaled him with ease.

Louis Van Gaal tinkered with his tactics for this game and went with a 4-3-3 formation using Wayne Rooney from a deeper midfield role. United managed played Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata as his three most advanced players.

United’s movements were bright as they delivered one of the finest performances in an otherwise tamed season for them.

The win sees them just a point behind Arsenal in the race for top-4 race. Gunners play against West Brom later tonight and if they do slip-up, United will have a clear chance at catching Arsenal for the final Champions League spot next season.

Tonight’s win would see Manchester United be quietly confident about their weekend’s FA Cup semi final game against Everton. Van Gaal by no means is out of the woods yet but a strong finish to the season may just save his job, which has been under extreme pressure throughout the season.
