Manchester United are prepared to offer a world record £135million to sign Barcelona’s in-form striker Luis Suarez, according to reports from The Sun.
According to reports, Mourinho has been let down by a lack of consistency in his forward ranks, with strikers Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford failing to find the net on a regular basis.
Needless to say the move will be seen as a controversial one by United supporters after Suarez’s Luverpool connections and the infamous rift he had with Patrice Evra while his time in Premier League.
Despite his antics, The Uruguayan recently won the 2016 European Golden Shoe with 40 goals – enjoyed a fruitful three-and-a-half years at Anfield, netting 69 goals in 107 Premier League starts.
Since his £75m move to Barcelona, he’s been even more prolific, finding the net 63 times in just 68 La Liga starts. Suarez will be in Manchester this week as Barcelona play Manchester City and that is where United officials will initiate contacts with the Uruguayan hitman.
Suarez is easily the best striker in world football right now who has the ability to win games on his own and is an equal part of Barcelona’s famous MSN (Messi, Suarez, Neymar) trio.
Reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona may be tempted to cash-in on their star striker who is yet to pen a new contract while Neymar and Messi have already signed new long-term deals with the Catalan club.
Chances of Suarez signing for Man United – 2/5
I would have rated the story as 1/5 if it was any other club but such has been United’s spending prowess in recent seasons that no one can deny their ability to sign Suarez from Barcelona.
Elsewhere, Spanish media has been adamant in recent months that Barcelona cannot keep all 3 (MSN trio) at Camp Nou given their financial restrictions. Perhaps that is why United are quietly confident of pulling the most shocking transfer in football’s history.
