“Lustig Replacement”? Fans react to new deal

Celtic have only managed to sign one player this summer having completed a permanent move for Odsonne Edouard, but more signings will be needed.

Brendan Rodgers men have won a second consecutive treble, but there should be a number of areas that Celtic consider reinforcing, particularly at right back.

The Bhoys have seen Mikael Lustig become a regular feature in Celtic games over the years, but he wasn’t quite at his best last season, and with Cristian Gamboa having failed to impress Rodgers, centre back Jack Hendry was plugged into playing at right back.

Another right back should be signed this summer, especially if Gamboa does depart, and signing one of the breakout performers of the World Cup should be Rodgers’ priority.

Peru may have been evicted from the tournament after losing to Denmark and France, but right back Luis Advincula has gotten the attention of many with his impressive performances in Ricardo Gareca’s defence.

Advincula, 28, has been something of a nomad over the course of his career, turning out for the likes of Juan Aurich, Sporting Cristal, Hoffenheim, Ponte Preta, Vitoria Setubal, Bursaspor, Newell’s Old Boys and Tigres UANL, while he is currently on loan at Lobos BUAP in Mexico.

The full-back has wowed with his blistering pace and attacking play, and whilst his career is yet to reach its peak, he has proved at the World Cup – and at the 2016 Copa America tournament – that he has a lot in store.

Celtic should be looking at the more attack-minded Advincula to challenge the solid and dependable Lustig, and a host of Bhoys fans have taken to Twitter during the World Cup to suggest that Rodgers should be keeping a close watch on the Peruvian for this summer.
