Unlike previous seasons, Arsenal enjoyed a rather fruitful summer of transfers with players like Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez arriving at the Emirates.
While Xhaka and Mustafi are among the household names of European football, Perez is yet to prove himself at the highest level. However, the 27-year-old had left quite an impression in his first few days as an Arsenal player.
According to Gunners left-back Nacho Monreal, Perez has settled at the club quicker than anticipated and already looks like a decent signing for Arsenal.
Speaking with Express, Monreal said: “Lucas Perez is a great striker, I know him very well because I follow La Liga quite a lot. I enjoyed watching him play last season.”
According to Monreal, Perez can contribute with many things for Arsenal because he is different to the rest of the players in the squad.
Monreal added: “He is quick, left-footed and he finds spaces really easily. He is going to help us a lot.
“After having a few training sessions with him, I can say that I am very surprised with him. He is a very good player and he will fit into the group nicely.
“The language barrier is the first challenge a foreign player must face. Fortunately for Lucas, he speaks a decent English and understands everything. The language barrier won´t be an issue for him.”
Arsenal take on Southampton this weekend with all eyes focused on Perez as he could even get his first start as there are growing doubts about Alexis Sanchez’s fitness after the Chilean was left exhausted from Chile’s World Cup qualification matches.
