Arsenal are set to sign Derportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez after agreeing to trigger the £17m release clause in his contract, according to reports from Marca.

Gunners have been on the hunt to sign a new striker throughout the summer with Alexandre Lacazette and Jamie Vardy already turning them down.

Likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata were also in the contention to sign for Arsenal but Arsene Wenger was priced out of a deal for all three centre-forwards.

Following those disappointments, Marca have confirmed that Perez will be an Arsenal player on Friday after agreeing personal terms earlier this week. Perez scored 19 goals and managed 11 assists last season for the 15th placed La Coruna side.

Marca have also revealed Valencia were also interested in signing Perez as a replacement to Paco Alcacer who appears to be joining Barcelona this summer.

Is Perez is the ideal signing?

On the face of it NO, Arsenal fans were expecting someone more like Lacazette who has actually got a goal-scoring pedigree in both domestic and European stage.

However, Perez is yet to establish himself on the big stage. Having said that, the Spanish striker is more than a decent finisher with an assured touch and does pack a punch in the air as well.

At the moment Perez may not seem as the ideal signing but hey Manchester United thought the same about Javier Hernandez all those seasons ago and look how did he turn out for them. So there is still hope for all the Gooners out there.
