Loic Remy has returned to Chelsea after sustaining an ankle injury at Crystal Palace, just over a week after the striker completed his loan move from Stamford Bridge.
Remy picked up the injury during a training session earlier this week and is expected to be ruled out for several weeks. According to reports, Remy will be assessed by Palace’s medical team who will liaise with Chelsea to monitor his progress.
The injury comes as a huge blow for both Remy and Palace manager Alan Pardew who was hoping to see the French striker this weekend along with new summer signing Christian Benteke.
Remy left Chelsea in search of regular playing time but this recent injury will be a major setback for the 29-year-old striker. Pardew spoke with the media earlier today and he could not hide his disappointment over Remy’s ankle injury.
Pardew said: “It is obviously a blow for the player and for us as a squad, he has just joined us and we were hoping he would play a big part in the team moving forward. He was looking great in training and this was an innocuous injury which can sometimes happen unfortunately”.
Palace have enjoyed a rather poor start to the season after losing two of their first three matches. Pardew saw his team score an injury time equalizer against Bournemouth last weekend giving them their first point of the season.
The Eagles take on newly-promoted Middlesbrough on Saturday while Chelsea take on Swansea after winning all three matches so far this season.
