Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek will play no part in the game against Leicester this weekend after pulling away from England’s final European Under-21 Championship qualifying fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Another player who is a doubt for the game this week is Leicester’s Ben Chilwell. The left back also pulled out from England’s Under-21 squad and has been sent to Leicester medical team to assess his injury concerns.
Both clubs are yet to make any official statement on the injury to their young players but it does look like Loftus Cheek and Chilwell will continue to sit out of their club’s starting XI this weekend.
Does it spell trouble for Conte?
Despite arriving with a big reputation, Antonio Conte has struggled to make an immediate impact on Chelsea side and part of the reason has been the poor squad strength at his disposal.
Chelsea’s midfield has looked far from an impressive unit and that is where Conte might have wanted to experiment with Loftus-Cheek in the starting XI or be sent from the bench.
However, the latest injury will stop the young Englishman’s rise to the Chelsea setup after making 17 appearances for The Blues last season.
