Liverpool are gradually catching everyone’s attention by winning matches after matches and are doing it in the most attractive way possible. Jurgen Klopp has brought his hard hitting brand of football and it’s about time Liverpool are taken as serious title challengers this season.
In nine matches played so far this season, Liverpool have managed to score 3 or more goals in five of those games and have carried a constant goal threat. The unusual front three of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane has given The Reds speed and penetration going forward.
Summer signing Sadio Mane has already bedded in nicely at Anfield with 3 goals and 1 assist to his name in first 6 Premier League matches. Bleacher Report posted a rather telling graphic earlier today which showed how dominating Liverpool have been this season virtually every attacking sense.
Seeing these numbers one must not take Liverpool’s early season form lightly. If only, Klopp’s men would get even better as the season progresses along. At this moment, Klopp is trying to figure out his best defensive setup with Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Clavan being his key options.
Full back position is more or less sorted with James Milner taking up the left back role following Alberto Moreno’s horror start to the season. Nathaniel Clyne has been a steady of Liverpool’s side who are currently 2nd in the league table.
Swansea win an important one for Liverpool
Until the game at Liberty Park last night, we had only seen good or bad from Liverpool where they have either been in command of the match or have struggled to get hold of teams. However against Swansea, Reds showed their dogged side of the game where they were prepared to sacrifice their natural style of play to get the result.
It was Roberto Firmino who won the penalty late on and James Milner tucked it away in a typical Milner fashion – his third goal in two weeks. Liverpool can seize their advantage in coming weeks as they only have Manchester United to worry about in coming 6-7 weeks.
Based on the current form, Liverpool may go on an unbeaten run until the late December. You might think I am way over my head but they are playing the likes of Crystal Palace, Watford, Southampton, Sunderland, Bournemouth, West Ham, Middlesbrough and Stoke City in upcoming weeks and who is to say that Klopp cannot find a way to win against these teams.
Liverpool’s biggest enemy is their inconsistency
Having said that we witnessed how Liverpool rolled over and lost the game against Burnley earlier in the season. However, if Liverpool can find a way to cut down on their errors, we may be looking at a team who can push the likes of Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Arsenal for the title come the end of May, next year.
Liverpool may even dip in the January transfer window to find a striker who can share the work load from Firmino and Mane and be the focal point up top which is not there at the moment. Klopp needs to keep the wheel spinning at Anfield and Liverpool fans can begin to dream of the impossible title win.
