Jurgen Klopp set foot in England and claimed to be the Normal One, only time will tell whether it was a remark for Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho or just a random statement. However, Klopp has stolen march over Mourinho in signing Portuguese Under-21 midfield star Ruben Neves.
Neves is currently playing for FC Porto, who have accepted the fact that they will lose Neves in the January Transfer window. Porto wanted Neves to sign an improve contract with a £40million release clause being part of that contract, however, the young Portuguese star wants to leave Porto and has agreed a move to Liverpool in 2 months’ time.
Neves, 18 has been dubbed as the next Sergio Busquets by many experts and he will now play for Liverpool. Neves was also chased by many European teams including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. Klopp had highlighted few areas where he wanted to make improvements and with Neves arriving in January, Liverpool’s midfield worries could be eased a little.
With Jordan Henderson injured, Liverpool have seen Lucas play there with not so great impact. Only James Milner has looked to take Henderson’s place in midfield and that has been one of club’s shortcomings this season. Had it not been for Henderson’s long-term injury, Lucas would not have stayed at Anfield beyond the summer transfer window.
Seeing such lack of options in midfield, Klopp has wasted very little time in agreeing a transfer for Ruben Neves, who is seen as the next best thing in central midfield position. Klopp has set a 4-years timeline to win his first major trophy at the club and Neves could play a vital role in the German achieving his goal.
