According to reports from Manchester Evening News, Jose Mourinho is now convinced to sign Genk’s Jamaican winger Leon Bailey as a replacement for Memphis Depay.
According to the reports, Mourinho wanted to sign Bailey during his time at Chelsea but was never given the back up to invest in his talents.
However, United scouts have already approved Bailey’s abilities to play at the highest level and the 19-year-old could sign for Manchester United as early as in January next year.
A versatile player who is equally adept on both the left and right wing, Bailey is currently enjoying Europa League football with Genk and could face United in the latter stages of the competition.
Replacement for Memphis?
Mourinho has given Memphis enough opportunities to prove his worth to Manchester United but the Dutchman has failed on virtually each of those instances.
It is believed that Bailey may be a more raw product than Memphis but could mature sooner than what Depay has taken to settle in the Premier League.
Man United are hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign Bailey in January and perhaps then loan him back to Genk for the remainder of 2016/17 season and then call him back at the start of next season.
