As much as this extraordinary season has been about the fall of giants – Jose Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers to name just three – it has been about the rise of underdogs.

Leicester City is top of the Premier League table with February almost upon us. While Crystal Palace and Watford are on the brink of breaking into the top six. The scent of change is clearly in the air with Leicester City topping the league table, above Arsenal, City and United.

It was practically unthinkable that Leicester City would be on the top of the table with one-third of the season to go, so why can’t they defy the odds and stay there till the very end. It will be worth looking out whether giants like Read-Madrid, PSG or even Bayern Munich will be heading for King Power Stadium next season.

Let us take a look that why the Foxes will continue this unbeatable streak…

HISTORY SPEAKS OUT

In the 131-year-history, it is the first time Leicester City have secured the top most position in the league table. Premier League history suggests that if you’re top at Christmas, you’ve got a relatively good chance of being crowned champions, although this rule applies strictly to Arsenal, Chelsea and the Manchester clubs.

The Foxes have sustained their challenge comfortably so far, and there has been nothing to suggest up to now that it won’t continue through until May. So, chances are there to be snapped up.

GOAL-SCORING BEASTS IN-FORM

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. The duo has bagged 28 goals this far and is showing no signs of slowing down. Why should they even slow down? When two players are working hard, so hard, and are at the best of their life, they should achieve their aim without much fuss.

Having equalized Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League scoring record, Jamie Vardy has been linked with a host of giants, though, he has confirmed that he will switch clubs only in the summer transfer window. Can he provide the Foxes a season worth remembering?

CONFIDENCE AND PRESSURE: 100 AND 0

The confidence is at its peak. It is quite certain that when a club climbs up from relegation zone to 1st position, the board and the fans, both are quite happy, and the pressure gets uprooted, from the team as well as the manager.

The clubs having huge finances and quality players work under pressure that leads to some drastic decisions.

Nobody expected Leicester to be first in the league in late January and they are surpassing even those most optimistic Foxes supporter.

A TACTICAL MASTERMIND

A tactical mastermind is the first and foremost thing you need to perform above expectations, and Leicester City has discovered a wild old fox in Claudio Ranieri. Though, he has not won a top-flight-title yet, he knows what it takes to win trophies and championships.

Experience, is in abundance, as he has managed some top clubs from Milan to Valencia. Now, it seems as if appointing Ranieri and sacking Pearson was more or less, a quality decision. He is the main-man to be credited for Leicester’s table-topping run. What else the fans could have asked for?
