Arsenal face an almost do-or-die double header fixture against Bayern Munich in order to save their Champions League season. Despite the tough task in hand, Arsene Wenger has received a timely injury boost as ESPN has confirmed that defender Laurent Koscielny will be fit to face the German giants later this month.
After suffering back to back defeats against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos, Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions have taken a huge hit, however, with the 3-0 demolition of Manchester United, one could see the possibility of Gunners getting pass Bayern Munich in a must-win clash against Bayern Munich.
Koscielny, who was taken off in the 3-2 loss against Olympiakos was initially thought to be ruled out for more than 3 weeks, however, Arsenal’s medic team have been working overtime to get him fit for the Bayern game. Reports from ESPN have confirmed that the French defender has been recovering well ahead of the schedule and will be fit in time to face Bayern Munich.
In Koscielny’s absence, Gabriel and Per Mertesacker looked in control against Manchester United, however, one can make a claim that United’s front line were far from convincing and were no match to the kind of threat Bayern Munich can pose with players like Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben, Mario Goetze and Douglas Costa in their ranks. With these attacking players gunning at Arsenal, Koscielny’s return would be a timely one and will boost Arsenal’s chances of qualifying from the group stages.
