Chelsea have given N’Golo Kante number 7 jersey ahead of the next season. Kante joined Chelsea in a £30m deal and has taken the number 7 jersey vacated by recently departed Ramires.
The news was confirmed by Chelsea’s official website which also mentioned the fact that Kante has now teamed up with rest of the Chelsea squad for their pre-season tour to the United States.
The defensive midfielder is hailed as the best signing of this transfer window after witnessing his exploits with Leicester last season. Given Antonio Conte’s high-intensity playing style, Kante would be the most important part of his plans.
However, Kante getting the number 7 may not be a good news for Riyad Mahrez’s move to Stamford Bridge. We covered a story last night mentioning how Adidas accidentally posted a picture of Mahrez’s Chelsea jersey with number 7 printed on it.
Perhaps Arsenal are still the favorites to sign the Algerian winger who is the reigning PFA player of the year after an incredible 2015/16 season. Mahrez scored 17 goals and laid down 11 assists to guide Leicester to an unthinkable title win.
Mahrez is still subject to a transfer interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona but Leicester are not panicking just now. The Foxes have put a £45m price tag on their main man and are awaiting his decision in coming weeks.
