Manchester United have moved a step closer in to signing the highly rated midfield star Andre Gomes, according to reports from Deporte Valenciano.
According to the newspaper, United are the only team left in run-in after Juventus left the race following Valencia’s staggering €65million demands for the player.
Gomes, 22 is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the game and Jose Mourinho is keen to sign the player at any cost this summer.
Super agent Jorge Mendes is personally working on the deal and has even discussed the possibilities of including Juan Mata in the deal to sign Gomes.
According to Deporte Valenciano (contextualized by Sport Witness), Mata is fearing the worst as Mourinho is all but certain to axe him from the squad when he takes charge of the club in July.
However, Mata could be delighted with the fact that he could move back to Valencia where he made a name for himself about a decade ago. Manchester United value Mata in the €25million bracket and could offer further €40million to get the deal done for Valencia’s Andre Gomes.
How will the fans react?
Juan Mata is undoubtedly one of the most popular figure in Premier League let alone amongst Manchester United supporters. They will not be happy to see the back of Mata, specially to sell him only to sweeten the deal for a new player.
However, Gomes is only 22-years old and will easily suit Mourinho’s playing style unlike Mata. So perhaps it is best for everyone that Mata quits Old Trafford this summer and plays for a club where he is actually appreciated.
