Liverpool fans are still finding it hard to deal with Mario Gotze’s rejection to join Anfield this summer. However, the club have turned their attention away from Gotze and are now keen to sign Sporting Lisbon ace Joao Mario.
The Portuguese sensation is now tipped to join Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool revolution, according to reports from A Bola. Mario has attracted a lot of interest from Europe including Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, Liverpool are in a pole position to sign the 23-year old midfielder, who managed 11 goals and 15 assists for Sporting Lisbon last season. Mario has been selected to represent Portugal at the upcoming Euro 2016 and is expected to be one of the big stars of the competition.
Why Mario is an ideal Klopp signing?
Joao Mario is an aggressive midfielder who is known for his highly rated decision making and passing technique. He can operate in a number of positions, including defensive midfielder, central attacking and winger, which is what exactly Klopp likes.
Mario’s tenaciousness and ability to win back the ball within seconds makes him an ideal player to operate under Jurgen Klopp. At present, Mario’s transfer value is listed as £12million, which is expected to go as high as £30million given the attention he is seeking from the other teams.
Despite that high price tag, Mario will be available for a considerable low fee than Gotze which could be the deal breaker for Liverpool as they are chasing a versatile midfielder ahead of the next season. Joao Mario seems the ideal option for Klopp, and is expected to arrive at Anfield after the conclusion of Euro 2016.
