EXPLAINED: How Germany can miss out on Euro 2016 Qualification?

Euro 2016 qualification is on everyone’s mind right now and everyone is talking about Group D and unreal possibilities of Germany missing out on Euro 2016 spot. As things stand, three teams including Germany, Poland and Republic Tonight, two games will decide the eventual two teams qualifying for the Euro Championship next year.

Germany, currently lead the group with 19 points and a goal difference of 14, however, by the time night ends, they could even go to third and kiss god-bye to the chance of winning World Cup and Euro Championship back-to-back. Now the big question arises of how Germany can miss out on qualification and it could only happen if they slip-up against Georgia, which is rather unlikely to happen but could happen if the World Champions are not on their game.

That brings us to the contenders ready to take their spot as Poland host Republic of Ireland in a do-or-die clash for both of the teams. Poland are Ireland both are locked on 18 points and margins are so fine that neither of the two can afford a bad result. For Germany to be knocked out of Euro 2016, Ireland will have to win against Poland as Polish side have a great goal difference of 22 and that will come to play.

If Ireland can beat Poland, given Germany loses their game then Joachim Low’s side will not be able to make it to Euro 2016. However, a draw or a win for Poland would see Germans rallying to France next year with a hope of doing the World Cup and Euros double, which was last achieved by France in 1998 and 2000.
