3 things Manuel Pellegrini needs to do for Manchester City to beat PSG

Manchester City vs PSG Champions League quarter final second leg tie is placed at a knife edge with The Citizens having a slender advantage following their 2-2 draw at Parc des Princes.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini knows that the onus will be on PSG to come out and win the game but that should not be an invitation for City to hold back and let the visitors dominate.

Despite Vincent Kompany’s injury, City are expected to start with their strongest side which will see Yaya Toure play from the number 10 role.

Predicted Man City lineup vs PSGHart, Sagna, Otamendi, Mangala, Clichy, Fernando, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Toure, Silva, Aguero

Tonight could be a historic moment for Manchester City as they have the chance to reach the Champions League semifinal stage for the first time in the club’s history. On that note we take a look at 3 things Manuel Pellegrini needs to do for Manchester City to beat PSG.

How can Manchester City beat PSG at Etihad?

Do not sit back and invite the pressure

Manchester City cannot get in the conundrum of sitting deep and hoping to contain PSG to a 0-0 draw. City may have got the away goal but PSG are a strong side and have dangerous attackers who can score at anytime.

That is where Pellegrini needs to be positive and look to score early and put the game beyond PSG’s reach.

Keep his faith in Fernando

The Brazilian may have experienced an off night in Paris after his poor touch which allowed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score PSG’s equalizing goal, but he will be a key player for Man City later tonight.

By playing Fernando, Pellegrini can start Yaya Toure in the number 10 role and make City’s attack a more potent one. Fernando’s presence would also be needed to track back and ensure PSG do not have enough room to attack through the middle.

Use his substitutions carefully

Man City manager will have the luxury of bringing on Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas and Wilfried Bony pending on the game’s situation. Pellegrini has been erratic in the past and is known to goof up from his substitutions.

He cannot repeat his previous errors and will need to analyse game’s current situation and introduce his impact players.
