Has Pedro done enough to keep his place at Chelsea next season?

Former Barcelona forward has experienced a troublesome start to his Chelsea career. After a bright debut game against West Brom, the Spaniard went off the boil and never looked like a £20million player.

Pedro was among the many things which happened at the wrong time for Chelsea this season. He was not the kind of player Jose Mourinho would have ideally wanted and it showed in the way Pedro failed to get to grips with Mourinho’s style of management.

Mourinho left and in came Guus Hiddink to take charge of the club until the end of this season. Even Hiddink wasn’t able to bring the best out of Pedro until the last few weeks.

Pedro has scored 5 goals in his last 7 Premier League appearances with the latest coming against Bournemouth last night. His impact on Chelsea team has increased since their domestic season has been as good as over.

Perhaps it is down to the fact that he is now playing without the pressure of performing in every game. Hiddink has assured Pedro of his place in the lineup regardless of how he plays. This assurances has allowed Pedro to play without the fear of failure and we have seen what he can bring to the team.

Antonio Conte will be the Chelsea manager next season and one of the decisions that he would need to make is to whether stick with Pedro and let him leave in the summer. Pedro is only suited to play from the wide areas and given Conte’s desires to bring Juan Cuadrado back to Stamford Bridge may decide whether to keep Pedro or sell him.

In the end, the decision may lie with Antonio Conte and him only but Pedro has certainly done enough in the recent weeks to keep his place in the Chelsea squad next season. If Conte can get the best out of Pedro, he may be an important player for The Blues when Chelsea aim to mount a serious title challenege next season.
