Manchester United agree terms for the South American defender

Manchester United have agreed a deal to loan their highly rated defender Guillermo Varela to the Serie A club Genoa.

According to the leading Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Varela’s agent was pictured meeting Genova’s official with deal already being agreed.

According to the Italian press, manager Louis Van Gaal is the only reason, why the transfer has not been completed. Van Gaal is keen to bring a full-back before letting another one depart.

Man United have several players injured

So far this season, Van Gaal has had terrible luck with his full-backs. He has seen Luke Shaw ruled out for rest of the season with Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young suffer long lay offs.

If Varela is to leave Old Trafford right now, Van Gaal might have to ask Ryan Giggs to come out of retirement to fill in the full-back slot.

That is precisely the reason he wants Varela to remain at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window.

With only 4 days remaining in the transfer window, it is not likely that we will see any defender come to Old Trafford, which will only be another set back for the fans waiting to see better days at Manchester United.
