Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been probing the transfer market for a central defender and is keen to sign one before the transfer window slams shut, but one name who looks like he will not be joining the Bhoys is Scott McKenna.
Celtic had offered Aberdeen £3.5m for the centre-half, however, their bid went to the touch and the SPL champions have since withdrawn their interest (via BBC Sport).
Speaking on McKenna ahead of Celtic’s Europa League clash against FK Suduva, Rodgers said: “He is a young player that I like, but it was made clear Scott won’t be for sale in this window so that would end that.” (also via BBC Sport).
With central defense one of the areas of Celtic’s squad that Rodgers is so keen to strengthen, not being able to sign the £1.13m-rated (via Transfermarkt) McKenna to Celtic Park will come as a blow to the former Liverpool manager.
The 21-year-old, though, is a player who would hardly have made any difference at Rodgers’ side and the Bhoys should now turn their attention to pursuing a move for experienced targets.
Take a look at what Celtic supporters are saying on McKenna below…

Good. Nowhere near good enough to play for Celtic. Got enough dumplings at the back, don't need another.
