Chelsea midfield woes are getting worse and worse everyday after it was revealed earlier today that Emanuele Giaccherini has agreed a 3-year deal to join Serie A giants Napoli.
Sources close to Gianluca Di Marzio are convinced of a meeting between Giaccherini and Napoli which ended up with the much complexed image rights issue being solved.
Player is now free to join Napoli pending an agreement with Sunderland which is expected to be completed tomorrow. Di Marzio claims that Sunderland will accept an offer of anything over £2million.
Giaccherini’s move to Napoli is indeed an opportunity lost for Chelsea who had earmarked the Italian for a possible summer transfer. Giaccherini was one of the main man for Conte at Euro 2016 and was eager to team up with him at Chelsea as well.
However, Blues are concerned about getting the big name signings done first with Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante being the key options.
However, those transfer are at least 10 days from getting completed which begs a question to be asked about Chelsea’s transfer plans.
Giaccherini was eager to joins hands with Conte and after seeing him execute Conte’s plans beautifully at Euro 2016, he would have been an ideal replacement for Nemanja Matic.
Juventus are believed to be edging closer to signing Matic, which would have made Giaccherini an ideal summer signing for The Blues.
However, delay in their approach and hesitations over Giaccherini’s abilities to succeed for them has seen Napoli make a late swoop and sign the talented Italian International. Official announcement for this transfer is expected in next 48-72 hours.
