News linking Arsenal to former PFA player of the year, Riyad Mahrez is not going away anytime soon. Arsenal fans will be hoping the deal can materialize as coach Arsene Wenger is known for always delaying transfer.
The same scenario played out in the signing of Lacazette after he was lunked to Arsenal for several years.
Reports from the Express have it that the player favoured to stay in England and play for Arsenal despite bid from Italian side AS Roma. Mahrez could not replicate hos 2015/16 form last season and so devalue his market value.
He has indicated his intention to leave the King power stadium by submitting a transfer request towards the end of last season. This has made Arsenal to show interest in the Algerian international.
Roma is trying to use Mahrez to replace Muhammad Sallah that was sold to Liverpool earlier this summer. Arsenal prefers Thomas Lear of Monaco but the asking price is making Mahrez a viable option for Wenger to go for.
Leicester City manager Shakespeare confirmed on Friday that indeed he received offers for Riyad Mahrez from Roma.
“I think I was quoted as saying on the last press day there had been no bids,” he said. “There has been a bid from Roma. I was told afterwards so I want to put the record straight. It was politely declined on the basis it was a low offer.”
Leicester are holding out for a £35m for any club that wants to get the player. Hopefully Arsenal will put in a bigger amount than Roma before the end of the transfer market.
