Five Possible Thibaut Courtois replacements for Chelsea Next Season

Chelsea fans have been rocked with the latest developments surrounding their star goal keeper Thibaut Courtois who seems to be heading down the exit road at Stamford Bridge next season.

Earlier today Mirror reported a story stating how the incoming manager Antonio Conte is content with letting Courtois leave. Real Madrid are the front runners to sign Courtois in the summer after switching their attention from David De Gea.

It has left The Blues in a precarious situation of having to look for a new goalkeeper to replace the Belgian International. Missing out on Champions League football will be a big blow for Chelsea as they will face a tough fight to keep hold of their star players.

Courtois is regarded as one of the best keepers in Europe at the moment thus finding an apt replacement will be a tough task for Antonio Conte and his coaching staff. On that note, we take a look at five possible Thibaut Courtois replacements for Chelsea next season.

Fraser Forster (Southampton)

Earlier this year, Forster kept 7 clean sheets in a row to assert himself as one of Premier League’s best stoppers. He is certain to travel with England’s Euro 2016 squad and perhaps could be the answer to Chelsea’s goalkeeper woes if Thibaut Courtois leaves in the summer.

Jack Butland (Stoke City)

Another English keeper who has seen his stock soar this season is Stoke City’s Jack Butland. Before his unfortunate ankle injury, he was seen as the man to take over from Joe Hart as England’s Number one.

Once he returns from injury next season, he will be on radar of several top teams in need for a goalkeeper including Chelsea.

Regardless of the asking price, Blues must lash out big sum on Butland as he could indeed fill the void left behind by Courtois’ expected departure.

Keylor Navas (Real Madrid)

If Courtois ends up joining Real Madrid this would be the automatic transfer on the cards. Last season, Los Blancos were ready to include Navas in the deal to bring David De Gea to Bernabeu and one expects the same to happen this season.

With Courtois’ heart set on a move to Real Madrid, Chelsea should ideally accept Navas+Cash offer, as the Chilean International is a more than capable goalkeeper.

Navas had the difficult task of taking over from Iker Cassilas and he has done that with a great deal of confidence and ease.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (Barcelona)

Although Manchester City are tipped as the favorites to sign Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Chelsea should make a late charge to force Barcelona’s hands in shipping their stopper to Stamford Bridge.

Ter Stegen has seen little game time as he only gets to play in the Champions League or cup competitions. For a keeper like him, he needs more playing time to force himself in to German’s national side.

He is young, agile, excellent shot stopper and with time, he is bound to get even better and Chelsea should go ahead and sign him to be the long-term replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen)

This could be a wild card transfer for Chelsea to consider. Bert leno is currently Manuel Neuer’s understudy and is certain to take huge strides in coming seasons.

He has age on his side and is certainly capable enough to be Chelsea’s number one keeper and be the perfect replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea would have to splash extra money to lure Leno away from Leverkusen as he is currently happy at Bay Arena and is not too keen on a move. However, Premier League is a lucrative league to say NO to and perhaps it could play in Chelsea’s favor as they look to find a long-term goalkeeping solution.
