Five careers Louis Van Gaal has already ruined at Manchester United

Louis Van Gaal is not the name you want to take if you are walking anywhere near Old Trafford these days. Fans are not pleased with Dutchman’s tactics and his ignorant attitude.

He has created a toxic environment inside the stadium, which was not something Ed Woodward had hoped for while hiring Van Gaal last summer.

One of the major criticisms Van Gaal has received at Old Trafford is his handling of players. In last 18 months, we have seen a number of falling outs between him and the United players, add to that, many players have left Man United as they could not fit in to Van Gaal’s strange philosophy.

Ahead of United’s FA Cup 3rd round tie against Derby County later today, we take a look at the five careers Louis Van Gaal has ruined at Manchester United since taking over as the manager.

Rafael (RB) – Old Trafford favorite was a regular figure under Sir Alex Ferguson and played a key role in back-to-back title winning sides. However, ever since Van Gaal took over, Rafael’s career suffered an unpleasant slide.

After being pushed to the reserve side, and some injury woes, Rafael was sold to Lyon, which did not go well with the fans. Despite being away from Manchester United, fans have not forgotten the work this little Brazilian did when he took over the right-back slot post Gary Neville’s retirement.

Angel Di Maria (LW) – Another promising player, who just could not adjust to the constant demands of Louis Van Gaal. One week, Di Maria was asked to play Left Wing, then the next game as the centre-forward, while the next game at Number 10.

Even a teenager following the game knows Di Maria’s best position, however, Van Gaal could not sort out his tactics and saw Di Maria happily walk away from Manchester United. Safe to say, fans were not pleased with this decision and have been suffering specially after seeing the Argentine score amazing goals for PSG.

Victor Valdes (GK) – What in the world went wrong here? Nobody knows. Valdes was a former player for Van Gaal and it seemed like a master stroke from the Dutchman at the time when the goalkeeper was signed by Man United.

Amid David De Gea’s exit speculations, Valdes was seen as the ideal Number 1 choice, however, it all went south when the player refused to play a U-21 game. After that, it was mayhem and tragedy for the former Barcelona man, as he was told to train alone and was not even given a squad number.

In the end, Valdes has recently joined Standard Liege on loan, with hope to come back to Manchester United next season and fight for the number 1 spot alongside De Gea. It could happen as well, after Van Gaal is rumoured to be heading out of the club next summer.

Michael Carrick (CM) – Ask any United fan, and they will have Carrick in their playing XI right now given the player’s ability to pass the ball forward. United have become a team addicted to making sideways passing, and despite the appalling results, Van Gaal has decided to bench Carrick more often than not.

Carrick 34, is as good as United have in the middle of park at present. If he is fit, he should play alongside Morgan Schneiderlin or Bastian Schweinsteiger. One bad game against Arsenal, and Van Gaal has opted to ruin Carrick’s Man United career.

Javier Hernandez (ST) – United fans, don’t kill me for reminding you once again about Hernandez’s unceremonious exit. The killer blow for Van Gaal and Man United has been the Mexican’s amazing form since joining Bayer Leverkusen.

He is scoring goals for fun, while United cannot seem to buy goals at present. These are just 5 players, who have suffered the ill-fated Man United career since Van Gaal has taken over. However, the list does not end there, which is the scarier thought to fathom, if you are a Manchester United fan.
